In the automotive world, the term "body control module" or "vehicle body control unit" is a general expression for the automation units which are responsible for the control, monitoring and diagnosis of electronic components or electrical loads within a vehicle.

A vehicle body control module fulfills various tasks which are dependent on the vehicle. In the world of mobile machines, the design is even more individual, to which STW responds with the flexible BCX system kit.

Typically, body control modules cover the following functions:

  • Safety and control of electrical loads, such as lights, air conditioning systems, immobilisers, central locking, windscreen wipers and more
  • Communication with further control units via the vehicle bus system (mainly CAN, also Ethernet)
  • Monitoring and diagnosis as a gateway
  • Interface to data management solutions

The BCX series as a system kit is based on standard housings (sizes M and L, open or waterproof), a generic controller (identical to the third control unit generation) and a (passive) circuit board. In the process, the (passive) circuit board can be a standard solution or can also be adapted specifically to customer requirements. It contains relays, fuses and connection technology, but can also be equipped with intelligence functions and additional functions.

Various BCX expansion stages range from the simple Power Box to intelligent, freely-programable control solutions. Optionally, it will be possible to integrate further function modules in future, such as remote controls or environment monitoring.
