I/O modules form the logical extension of control units. They increase the number of inputs and outputs or provide special functions.

Through connection and control using the CAN bus, they also simplify the wiring within a mobile machine. I/O modules are located close to the corresponding actuators and sensors. The position in the machine can be identified via hardware coding, and the modules are configurable using software.
