The automation specialists at Sensor-Technik Wiedemann GmbH (STW) are collaborating with TES Electronic Solutions, a specialist in driver assistance software, to provide manufacturers of mobile machinery with dynamic bird's-eye view systems. The TES 3D Surround View software is used on the high-performance HPX.ai-vision controllers.
Static bird's-eye view systems are a proven tool in large construction, forestry, and agricultural machinery such as wheel loaders and harvesters. However, the fixed bird's-eye view has its limitations, as it always shows the same angle. What is happening further ahead, beside, or behind the machine is not shown when using these systems. This is where the TES 3D Surround View (TSV) software from TES Electronic Solutions comes in. In addition to the classic bird's-eye view, it allows any predefined viewing angle around the machine to be displayed. The vehicle itself is shown in the correct perspective in the generated image. Multi-view displays are also possible, allowing several sensitive viewing angles to be seen simultaneously on one screen. An example: When reversing, a rear view camera-like perspective can be displayed in the focus view, while the side view of the vehicle is displayed in smaller windows. This allows machine operators to decide flexibly and intuitively which detailed view they want to see in order to avoid collisions and ensure greater safety. STW offers Surround View as an optional feature on HPX.ai-vision.
TES' TSV software is specially optimized for real-time video processing in off-highway environments. It supports standard 3D GPUs to reduce the load on the CPU and relies on the proven OpenGL API for rendering. The HPX controller from STW provides a powerful multicore architecture and dedicated GPU acceleration as an MPSoC system as the hardware basis for this.
“The computing power of the HPX controller in combination with the optimized TSV software from TES opens up new possibilities for driver assistance systems in the off-highway sector,” emphasizes Christian Klausner, Director of Product Management at STW. “Machine manufacturers can take safety and comfort functions to a new level with the dynamic bird's-eye view and surround view systems.”
STW will present HPX.ai-vision with the TSV software at Agritechnica 2025 in Hanover from November 9 to 15 in Hall 17, Booth D12.
